Christian Science does not, as stated in an article entitled "Chat on Health," depend for its efficacy as a healing agent upon the influence of the human mind on the body. On the contrary, it teaches that there is but one Mind, God, and the Christian Scientist can heal only as he has in him that Mind "which was also in Christ Jesus," that is, the Mind of God.

In the gradual awakening of mankind to the fact of a close relation between mind and body the world is only taking its first step toward the practical recognition of the teaching of Christian Science. On page 177 of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says, "Matter, or body, is but a false concept of mortal mind;" and again, "From first to last, the body is a sensuous, human concept."

The advice so freely given not to worry or fear because of the effect of conditions of mind on the body, does not give the power to profit by it. Just as the possession of building materials would not enable you to erect a house unless you had a working knowledge of the laws of construction involved in the process, so you cannot eliminate fear and worry from the human mind unless you rightly understand the power of God and intelligently feel assured of the harmonious government of His creation. The understanding of God as the only Mind is therefore what heals both mind and body. This differentiates Christian Science from the systems of mental healing with which the writer of the article associates it.
