A sermon reported in the News contained the representation that Christian Science is one of the "false religions," and that the genuine Christian Scientist cannot pray because of his views as to sin and as to "the blood of Christ on Calvary." The mere ipse dixit of the preacher does not necessarily establish what he said as the truth. A careful and intelligent study of the words and works of Jesus will suffice to show that precisely the same judgment would be applicable to him in the light of the preacher's view-point. The fact is, that Christian Science is nothing more or less than a revival of the ministry of Jesus.

According to the recognized rules of criticism, it is only right and proper that the intent of another in his statements should be first clearly understood before being attacked by criticism. Christian Science does not say that there is nothing in sin, but just the opposite of that. It teaches that it is something to be abhorred and avoided and escaped from, and shows how freedom from it is to be obtained.

That it is possible for Christian Scientists to pray effectively is demonstrated in the experience of hundreds of thousands who in answer to such prayer have experienced all manner of healings, — physical, mental, moral, and spiritual. Herein we have the explanation for the wonderful growth of the cause of Christian Science. And its progress will continue so long as it meets the cry of mankind for help for all manner of needs.
