The Lectures
Dr. Francis J. Fluno delivered a lecture on Christian Science to a large audience in the Village Theater. He was introduced by Hugh Stuart Campbell, first reader, who said in part:—
Nineteen centuries ago Jesus, the master Metaphysician, healed all manner of diseases, raised the dead, fed the multitudes, and walked on the water, through his clear understanding of God as divine Principle. He illustrated his words by practical demonstration. He said very plainly that those who believed on him could repeat his works, and that mountains could be removed by the amount of faith proportionate to a grain of mustard-seed. Today Christian Science furnishes undeniable proof that Jesus' words have not passed away. It substantiates its claim to be the Comforter promised by the Master by merging precept into practice, linking theory with demonstration, and manifesting the power of the word of God by healing all manner of sickness, reforming the sinner, and revealing to thousands of adherents man's tender relationship with the ever present God who is Love. It was for this that Mrs. Eddy lived and labored. It is for this that she has the gratitude of thousands. Her achievement might be epitomized in the modest statement in Science and Health (p. 174): "Truth is revealed. It needs only to be practised." —Correspondence.
