To the many weary seekers after Truth I gratefully and lovingly give my testimony in behalf of that wonderful liberator of enslaved mankind, Christian Science. Early in 1912, when this teaching was brought to my attention by a loving Christian Scientist, I was to mortal sense a hopeless, incurable inebriate, having tried every means known to rid myself of the drink habit, but with failure after failure, until at last I was utterly despondent. I felt myself without hope and without a God, having earnestly prayed for deliverance to my then far-off God without avail.
While in this condition one afternoon I visited a Christian Science practitioner, and I shall never forget the loving, charitable, and helpful words that were spoken to me at the time. Deliverance came instantaneously! That was the beginning of happiness for me—a happiness never to leave me throughout all eternity. I left her office realizing for the first time my God-given dominion over material sense. Only by loving God's entire creation and by earnest consecration to divine Principle can I ever express the boundless gratitude that is in my heart for that day of salvation. Since then I have become a devoted student of Christian Science and have been able to demonstrate its teachings whenever and wherever necessary.
I have been enabled to discontinue the wearing of glasses, my sight being excellent without them, also catarrh of years' standing has disappeared. God has since been our only physician. The result is a healthy and well provided for family, instead of the former conditions, which were just the reverse in both respects. In every need, whether manifested as health or supply, I have been able to demonstrate that beautiful thought presented to us by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." My earnest hope is that this message may reach many of those who find themselves in the same bondage as that from which I was freed. To such I wish to say that there is hope, for God is a very present help in time of trouble.
