I have received so much help and encouragement from...
I have received so much help and encouragement from reading the testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals, that I should like to tell of two of the many healings which have taken place in my family. My little daughter, now seven years of age, had suffered from a skin disease almost since birth, and we had tried various remedies without success. During the summer of 1914 it again made its appearance, so I took her to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. She was completely healed in two treatments, and there has been no return of the trouble.
The other healing seemed most wonderful, and came entirely through absent treatment. My son was suffering from a wisdom tooth, which seemingly could not come through the gum, and after days of suffering a case of blood-poison and lockjaw was fast developing. Finally, after he had passed a sleepless night, I realized he must have help soon, as his face was badly swollen and becoming stiff. He had been making daily visits to the dentist, but they had not seemed to do any good. While I had not been studying Christian Science long, I had learned to go to it for every need, so I called a practitioner. My own fear was very great, but it gradually disappeared, and in an hour from the time the practitioner was called, the boy was asleep and the pain gone. The help received was almost instantaneous, and is another proof of the power of absent treatment as understood in Christian Science. At seven o'clock in the morning he had been barely able to get the end of a spoon between his teeth and swallow a little milk; in two hours he made a visit to the dentist, who got his mouth open wide enough to remove a tooth in front of the diseased one, allowing a discharge to take place. The dentist continued to watch the case for several days, as he still had fear of lockjaw, but finally dismissed it, telling my son he was a lucky boy.
Many other problems have been worked out in Christian Science. A relative who was visiting me had lost her position, and as she was entirely dependent upon herself, became discouraged, especially as so many people were looking for employment. Merely for the sake of having something to read, she picked up Science and Health, and I asked her why she did not take her problem to Christian Science. When she replied that she thought it was for sick people, I told her the beautiful part of this religion was that no problem was too large or too small to be worked out in Christian Science. She continued to read the text-book, and one day asked me if I would write to my practitioner for her, state her problem, and ask for treatment. I did so, and at the first place she applied for work she was offered a position, which she accepted, and every condition was beautifully met.
