A speaker is reported to have said that although there was a little truth in Christian Science he did not wholly believe in it. What I wish to point out is that Christian Science is the Science of the Christ and is nothing else than the restoration to humanity today of primitive Christianity as it was practised by Jesus, the apostles, and the early Christians for nearly three hundred years after the time of our Lord. The Authorized Version of the Bible, and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, are the two text-books of Christian Science. On page 341 of the latter book the author says: "In Christian Science mere opinion is valueless. Proof is essential to a due estimate of this subject." It is therefore evident that one can only speak with authority upon this subject after he has obtained the necessary proof of the truth of the teachings of Christian Science. Without such essential proof any statements upon the subject are usually made more or less at random, and are therefore unreliable and rather apt to mislead the general public. The saying of the apostle James that "faith without works is dead" is full of significance in these times.
