Recently there appeared an article under the heading, "Trains the Voice by Mental Suggestion," in which Christian Science is linked with mental science and mental suggestion. As this will undoubtedly give many of your readers an erroneous impression regarding Christian Science, I trust in all fairness you will permit me to correct it.

Christian Science teaches that God is Mind, and that man is the reflection or expression of Mind, and is governed only by the law of divine Mind. It teaches entire obedience to and reliance on that divine Mind which can produce only good. Mental science, or mental suggestion, is the operation of the human mind. It is the belief of one mortal mind controlling another mortal mind, and is productive of both good and evil. It is allied to will-power, and Mrs. Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 490) says: "Willpower is but a product of belief, and this belief commits depredations on harmony. Human will is an animal propensity, not a faculty of Soul. Hence it cannot govern man aright." Christian Science teaches that the attempt to practise mental suggestion will gradually destroy the power to heal through the law of God. Therefore the one is in direct opposition to the other.
