One of the greatest privileges that Christian Scientists have is the opportunity afforded them to acknowledge through the Journal or Sentinel the benefits they have received from the teachings of Christian Science. About five years ago I was one of the most miserable persons the sun ever shone upon. To outward appearances I was all run down, as some express it, and our family physician, also my parents, thought I needed a tonic. My parents did everything they could think of to make me happy, but I now see that nothing, save being at-one with God, satisfies. The tonic was taken, but the misery continued; it was peace of mind for which I was hungering, and material remedies could not give it.

I talked with ministers and other good people, seeking light, feeling that surely there was a religion which could be understood, that could be applied to our daily lives and would be a support in every trying circumstance. These dear people tried to lead me in the path of righteousness as they saw it. They did comfort me somewhat, and I am truly grateful for their efforts; but I did not find peace, the peace "which passeth all understanding," until I began to interpret the Bible in the light of the teachings of Christian Science.

Since coming into Science I see that Jesus' command to "preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick," cannot be divided. In fact, when the truth is preached it heals the sick, for the psalmist says that God "sent his word, and healed them." The same word is as powerful today as it was nineteen centuries ago, when voiced by Christ Jesus. Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The truth that he knew and spoke did free from both sin and sickness, and the same truth is here today, fulfilling its mission. This "pearl of great price" is plainly taught in our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. An unprejudiced perusal of this book is sure to make one love the Bible, and study it with a greater joy and satisfaction than ever before. I am deeply thankful to God for the gift of Christian Science to this age. We love Mrs. Eddy for being brave enough to stand against the world and give to us in simple words the truth revealed to her through the study of the Scriptures. As God is the giver of every good and perfect gift, I feel entirely safe in relying on Him for health, for since I began the study of Christian Science attacks of sickness have come up only to be banished by the word of Truth, the power of God.
