The Post-Standard

As a welcome respite from war topics, I note your excellent newspaper is giving some space to the discussion of "How to Make the Church Entertaining." This subject has received the attention of earnest religionists everywhere, and it would be unjust to say that "modern" methods have failed, even if, as claimed, the apparent results are not commensurate with the effort put forth.

As a traveling man, and one who has attended the services of many religious denominations all over the country, it appears to me that the one Christian body which seems to have no trouble in filling its churches is the one that has the simplest form of service and offers none of the "modernist's" attractions in the form of orchestras or elaborate musical programs or ceremonials. I refer to the Christian Science organization. While all that this body teaches may not gain immediate universal acceptance, it does to offer something which the victims of this high-pressure age need,—a present lightening of the load of fear and worry and a heaven here and now.
