Among the many blessings and benefits that have come to...

Among the many blessings and benefits that have come to me through Christian Science, there is a demonstration which I remember with special gratitude on account of the lesson it conveyed. About four years ago I found myself facing a serious business difficulty, and as there seemed to be no way out of it, humanly speaking, I made up my mind to work out the problem in Christian Science. I asked a member of the Christian Science church for advice and help, but when after a week conditions seemingly grew worse, I refused her assistance and sought for light and guidance in the Bible. I saw that whenever Jesus' disciples failed in a case, the Master would rebuke them for their unbelief, and I held fast to the thought that divine Love is all-power and that Truth would do the perfect work.

I spent weeks and months in earnest prayer and meditation, and endeavored to keep my thought in harmony with Truth and express truth by my actions, while trying to exclude the testimony of material sense. A creditor threatened to annul a contract signed by me (relative to a piece of land which I had been influenced to purchase through false promises made to me by a land-agent), by which I was bound to make payment, unless I fulfilled my obligations at an appointed time. All my endeavors to obtain the necessary sum remained unsuccessful. I had spent all my time, had worked and used the rest of my property, in improving the land and converting the place into a nice home, and now it seemed that I must lose it all. This certainly could not be the will of God. I tried to find a buyer, but new difficulties arose, as the buyer was not able to give full satisfaction to my creditor, and I received the letter informing me of the annulment of my contract.

No human help could preserve my home, and feeling that my understanding was not equal to the situation, I applied to a Christian Science practitioner, who promised assistance. When I left her, and while on my way home, my consciousness was suddenly illumined, and the words came to me as admonition: More faith, more gratitude for the good received, is needed. I felt the spiritual uplift and knew that I was being helped. Two days later, when I was expected to appear at the lawyer's office, I was informed that everything had been adjusted and that my creditor would accept the terms which the buyer was able to make. The lawyer handed over to me the sum deposited by the buyer. This experience taught me that no problem, no matter how difficult it may seem, ought to make us feel discouraged; that "with God all things are possible," if we but set our trust and faith in Him and gratefully remember the blessings already received.
