As I always enjoy reading the testimonies, I send my experience in the hope that it may help some one. I had been ill for over a year, and as a result of continued bad health my eyes had become so weak I could not read; therefore I consulted an oculist, who prescribed a remedy which caused me great suffering. I got two pairs of spectacles, one pair for reading and one for general use, and was told I would never be able to read without them, but they did not help me at all in reading. At last I thought something more ought to be done, so I went to London to consult a specialist for nervous complaints. He told me my health was in a very critical condition, that unless I went at once to a nursing-home, I might not live three weeks. Accordingly, I went to one in Ventnor, where I stayed five weeks and was most kindly treated. Although I had not been able to read the Bible for a long time, thoughts kept crowding on me of the presence of Christ and of the power of God.

After leaving the home, my sister and I stayed three weeks in lodgings in Ventnor and then returned to London, staying there two days to break the journey before our return to Norfolk. We called on an old friend who lived close to the hotel where we were stopping, and were greeted with the words, "I have been longing to see you to tell you about my son, who has been ill for two years and has been healed through Christian Science." Soon afterward the son came to stay with us in Norfolk and brought "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Sentinel, Journal, and Quarterly. He told us what wonderful healing were taking place every day through the knowledge of God as the great Physician, and that it was quite as possible to be healed today as it was when Jesus walked the earth. As soon as we could, we went to London and attended the Christian Science services on Sunday, and the next day I received my first treatment. That was July 16, 1910. Imagine my joy when on the following Thursday I realized I could read easily without spectacles. My strength also came back very rapidly.

I had been a seeker after truth many years, as the teaching in the church I attended did not satisfy me. My freedom came so suddenly that I had to study the Christian Science literature to try to understand how the healing had been accomplished. My thought had to be cleared of wrong concepts of God and man. When I realized that Christ Jesus had come to earth to give men a new conception of God, it was a revelation to me. As I read, "The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works;" and again, "I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me," I understood for the first time something of the greatness of the work Christ Jesus had done. I began to know that God is the Father of all, and that He has planned all for man's happiness, but that mortals through their wrong mental attitude have lived in an imaginary "far country," suffering from sin, sickness, and untold and unnecessary misery. In 1911 I had the privilege of class instruction, and this was a great help.
