Words cannot express our gratitude and thankfulness for...

Words cannot express our gratitude and thankfulness for what Christian Science has brought to us in the last few years. Discord has lost its seeming reality, and peace and love have taken its place. The first Christian Science treatment in my immediate family was for my eyes. I could hardly see to thread a needle or to sew. I wore glasses, and was told I would always have more or less trouble with my eyes; but they have been healed in Science. Bowel disorder, supposed to be due to heredity, was destroyed, and croup has been conquered and reduced to its nothingness. Many other ills have been overcome, in proof of the allness of God. The physical healing, however, has been the least of my benefits. I also wish to express my thankfulness for the spiritual uplift which I received in reading the chapter on Prayer in Science and Health. I am very grateful for the Christian Science literature, which is daily food for thought. It helps me in my work, and also in teaching the children to do right.

The healings referred to occurred several years ago, and they have been permanent and complete. Since that time I have had class instruction, and I would like to add a testimony of healing which took place in July, 1912. My oldest son, who was then fifteen years old, became sick, being feverish and unconscious. He was all spotted in blotches, but a Christian Science practitioner treated him, and the next day every blemish had disappeared. Four or five days later the younger boy's hands were all spotted, and the practitioner said I must notify the authorities. I did not want to do this, but she told me I must be law-abiding. I said I would send first to our old family physician and see what he had to say about it. When the physician arrived, he examined the boy and our little girl, and said that the ailment was scarlet fever and a throat affection in one of its worst forms. The next day the health authorities came and quarantined the house.

When the physician had finished his orders, the practitioner told him that we were Christian Scientists and would leave the healing to God, whose presence was always with us and ready to save. The physician laughed, and said he doubted it in this case; however, I read to the two children from Science and Health, and when the doctor came the next day their temperature was normal. He was greatly surprised at this, and said that if the children's bodies did not scale or peel it surely would be wonderful. I sent for the practitioner, though she had to stay outdoors, and told her what the doctor had said. In less than two days the children were entirely healed. When the doctor saw this, he asked permission to read Science and Health and took the book home with him.
