A sense of deep gratitude impels me to tell of the many blessings which I and my family of eight members have received through Christian Science. It is almost six years since I first heard of this teaching. Up to that time we had nothing but sickness in our home during twenty years, and one member had passed on. A sister who lives in Switzerland, and to whom I would often pour out my troubles, sent me two medical books the suggestions of which I followed, but without being benefited. Later on she wrote that she wished I would try Christian Science.
This proved to be what we needed, and I now understand the meaning of the words, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." I was indeed broken in mind and body, and I had been driven to assume debts on account of the expense incurred by medical treatment. One of our children having been taken with typhoid fever, we had a Christian Science practitioner attend the case, and through her loving ministrations the child was made whole in two weeks, whereas my wife and our eldest girl had been obliged to stay in bed for fifteen weeks formerly with the same malady.
I might fill a whole book with accounts of the benefits and blessings which we have experienced through divine Love. Recently our youngest boy contracted a severe cold and had to stay in bed. The throat was affected, and there was high fever. As the child seemed to drop into a serious condition within a few days, we asked a practitioner to take up treatment. The result was that he felt much better the next day, and was entirely restored in a few more days. During the six years since we have been reading Science and Health there has been no physician in our home. The understanding of God as taught in Christian Science has proved itself to us all to be a "shield and buckler" indeed. I thank God from the depths of my heart, and would not fail to express my gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for having taught the truth which maketh free.—Otto Graf, Columbus, Ohio.
