In the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

In the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, we learn that it is unnecessary to understand disease in order to heal it; and as we carefully analyze this fact, we see that to study disquisitions on disease is to become more acquainted with it, more fearful of danger under certain conditions, and more fearful of the suffering that the knowledge of disease laws entails. In the Old Testament we are thus counseled: "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee." And in the New Testament Jesus, speaking to his disciples, commanded them to preach the gospel with "signs following," namely, the healing of the sick and sinning. There was no recommendation of the study of pharmaceutics, material laws or conditions. Jesus knew and proved that the understanding of God as the only creator, who made all that was made and pronounced it good, healed the sick and distressed with a thoroughness that no knowledge gained through the study of matter could even attempt.

Jesus also said, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, ... and all these things shall be added unto you." This means, as I understand it, that if we seek to know God as good, as the only creator and source of all being, the only power, presence, and activity, and man as made in His image and likeness, as governed and controlled by Him, the conscious expression of understanding, joy, peace, health, happiness, and success, having senses which are spiritual, and having dominion over all the earth, here and now, we can be healed of all our inharmonious conditions. It was by this understanding that I was healed in the summer of 1912. I felt very ill. My limbs were swollen, and among other discords, there was a constant discharge from the mouth. We, however, sought the kingdom of God, and held steadfastly to man as made in His image, spiritual and perfect, as the expression of the one infinite Mind, inseparable from the Father. We sought to understand more about God and His creation. Each day more of the truth about God's man was revealed to me, and bit by bit the belief and fear of the disease fell away,—gave place to the understanding of perfect health and strength. The disease has not appeared in any way again.

I am indeed grateful for the understanding of God's goodness which I have gained from our text-book, and feel that I have so much to be grateful for that I do not know where to begin or how fitly to express it all. I love all the Christian Science literature, and am privileged to be on the distribution committee here. My heart is filled with love and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for proving the saving love of God for His children, and for her unselfish living and clinging to God as the only power, that she might give this truth to us, that we likewise might know God and rely upon Him as an ever-present help in time of trouble.
