Among the Churches

Current Notes

Chicago, Ill.—Starting with a membership of about five hundred, Fifteenth Church of Christ, Scientist, held its first services yesterday [May 3] in Masonic Hall, South Central avenue, Austin. This church is the third Christian Science church to be organized in Chicago since March 1, and was necessitated because two other churches had become quite overcrowded.

Third Church, West Washington boulevard and Leavitt street, has a seating capacity of fifteen hundred, yet for months almost every Sunday service saw dozens standing during the service. Similar conditions existed at Second Church, whose members meet in the Warrington Theater, Oak Park. The excess membership of these two churches, particularly those living at the extreme ends of their respective zones, organized Fifteenth Church. The growth of the Christian Science church in Chicago is regarded as remarkable.—Chicago Examiner.

Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands.—First Church of Christ, Scientist, has just purchased a building lot on the corner of Wilder avenue and Kewalo street. The lot is situated in a very desirable part of the town, in the residence district, and is easy of access, being on the car line. It is 178 by 125 feet, and the price is seven thousand dollars, of which forty-five hundred dollars has been paid. The church was unanimous in its choice of this lot, and is happy in having taken this step toward getting a home. It plans to erect an appropriate edifice as soon as funds are available.
