[Written for the Sentinel]

Unmoved

A GIFT of love and joy so bright, so pure,—
Roses and heliotrope, gay and demure.
Their mingled fragrance gently floods the air,
Till peace and joy and love seem everywhere.

A gift of consolation wondrous sweet;
Heliotrope and roses the sad and weary greet.
Though night and darkness cast about their gloom,
Softly yield the flowers their sweet perfume.

Thoughts of gratitude alive with loving deeds,
Christlike courage meeting human needs,
Alike mid solemn dirge or joyful psalm,
Softly breathe they forth Love's healing balm.

O tender heart aglow with truth and love,
Awakened to the blessings from above,
Unmoved by cloudless day or hatred's night,
Breathe forth thy life made fragrant with the right.
