Nearly thirty years ago my husband had many severe attacks of neuralgia of the heart, and the best physicians in Chicago gave me no hope, but told me that he might pass away at any moment. It was at this time that I heard of Christian Science and began its study. God blessed me with sufficient understanding to heal my husband quickly, and ever since this demonstration he has been a well man; in fact, stronger than most men of his age.

After so striking a proof of Truth's power, together with many smaller demonstrations, both mental and physical, one would think that I would have given myself entirely to God's work; but instead of so doing, I allowed error to stop my "activities of virtue." The work to be done in Science was forgotten for the pleasures of sense and success in the world of mortal mind. In "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 362) Mrs. Eddy tells us that "pleasure is no crime except when it strengthens the influence of bad inclinations or lessens the activities of virtue." I now think that this is where I made my mistake. This mortal thought was manifested on my body as inaction. I was attacked by a stroke of paralysis so severe that the bones on my left side were dislocated. This was sixteen years ago, and since then six more strokes have visited me. My demonstration of healing is still incomplete, but I have advanced so far along the road to health and happiness that error can no longer keep me from expressing my gratitude, in the hope that some other sufferers may be encouraged by my long fight.

I am indeed grateful for all the happiness and courage that have been mine through Christian Science during these many years. Surely nothing but divine Love could have kept me here on earth. I daily strive to realize that I am living in eternity. Trials are turned into blessings when we make them opportunities in which to cultivate, like Paul, patience, persistence, faithfulness, and love. All these years I have been able to do my daily duties as nearly as I have seen them. My gratitude to God for Christian Science, and my thankfulness to all the dear ones who have helped me on my way, as well as for the many demonstrations that have brought joy to others, is overflowing.
