Wisdom

A SUFFERER who has failed to find relief through materia medica is often advised to try Christian Science, but refrains on account of what he has thought or heard in regard to its teachings. When such a person applies for help, the wise practitioner will find a way to interest the patient without arousing his prejudice, and thus open up the way for the healing.

A Jewish woman was induced by a friend to be treated in Christian Science for a disease which many doctors had failed to cure. Her first words to the practitioner were, "I do not believe in Jesus, nor wish to hear anything about him." "You believe in 'the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob,' do you not?" asked the practitioner. "Of course I do," she answered. "That is the God who heals all our diseases, as the psalmist tells us," the practitioner went on. Through the new view-point thus presented, the patient's interest was aroused, her prejudice taken away, and she was healed.

Another instance was that of a man, past all human aid, who consented to have a practitioner called. His first words to her were, "I am not willing for you to talk to me about God; I am not a religious man." "How would you like me to talk to you about Truth?" asked the practitioner. "I like the sound of that word," he replied. "It is Truth that will heal you," continued the practitioner. The patient was interested, instead of being disturbed by a discussion; treatment was begun, and he too was healed.
