I am thankful for the opportunity afforded by our periodicals...
I am thankful for the opportunity afforded by our periodicals to testify to what Christian Science has done for me, and continues to do. I was healed of an abnormal growth, also of a malignant sore of six years' standing. These ailments had caused a complication of many severe troubles. I was constantly in pain and greatly depressed. I had almost given up God and the Bible, although I had tried to be a Christian since early childhood. I could no longer love a God who allowed me to suffer so, as I believed at that time, but I have since, through the teachings of Christian Science, learned that God, who is infinite good, divine Love, does not send these afflictions upon His children. Those were very dark months. I had often thought of ending my life, for I could see nothing in the future but an insane asylum or the grave.
My husband, himself an osteopathic physician, procured the best physicians for me. I must say in gratitude to them that they were kind and exhausted every means known to them to give me relief; but all material means failed. Then Christian Science came to me as a stranger, and I received it. When I was first approached on the subject I felt insulted and indignant, but through respect for my friend I accepted an invitation to attend the Wednesday evening testimonial meeting of Christian Scientists in another city, where I was staying for the purpose of taking treatment from physicians in whose care I had been placed by my husband. What I heard at that Wednesday evening meeting, however, inspired me with hope that the power of God as understood by the Christian Scientists could make me well.
I cannot find words to express my gratitude to God, or to dear Mrs. Eddy, whose teachings made plain to me the Christ way of healing the sick. I am indeed thankful for every trial, pain, and sorrow, if it needed all these weary years in the wilderness to bring me to what I am, for I am now learning to lay up for myself treasures in heaven. I rejoice daily in God's abiding love and care. Each trial that comes to me gives me an opportunity to prove what Christian Science is, and that it does heal. The spiritual uplifting of Christian Science is beyond expression.
