HIGHER MEANINGS OF LIFE

As the patriarchs and prophets of old extricated the idea of God from a false material concept, so in this day Christian Science guards it from the abstractions of philosophy and material conceptions of Deity which are little better than the idols of an earlier day. Christian Science affirms the knowledge of God to be the basis upon which this Science is understood and demonstrated; that to know God is the Science of Truth, Life, and Love. This statement becomes explicit when we realize the conscious fact that God is the only Life; and as Jesus associated life with eternality, so Christian Science teaches that a life bounded by death is without meaning; that the existence of man is identical with the existence of God, and that the belief of a life separated from God is unthinkable.

When we apprehend that Jesus knew God, we see that he must have known His laws and worked in accordance therewith in healing sickness and sin, and as omnipotence cannot exist in one place and be absent from another, this divine law must obviously be one of universal application. As God is Love and Love is divine Mind, it is essential to a better understanding of its healing power and beneficence that we know the only real thoughts to be the pure and perfect thoughts of God. In this way we entrench ourselves in the recognition of ever-present good, and through its infinity we are safe from the attacks of evil, in whatsoever form presented.

Christian Science proclaims freedom as the spiritual man's prerogative and birthright, but it is only as we emerge from the gloom of wrong thinking that we apprehend the higher meanings of life and can grasp the all-inclusive emancipating range of the Principle of Christian Science, which places no limit on the redemptive power of Truth. Even as the inspired Founder of this Science provided blessings for the many by realizing and reflecting divine Love, so we, if we follow her example, will help to awaken the world from its age-long sleep. If we realize the law of present opportunity, we will find that it is always harvest time in the world: "The time for the reappearing of the divine healing is throughout all time" (Science and Health, p. 55).
