[Written for the Sentinel.]

LOVE IS ALL

Take courage, thou that failest; Love ne'er fails!
In the extremity, Love's hand avails.
Turn then thy thought from matter, that it may
In Spirit find repose: thy burdens lay,
And see them not nor fear them, till they fade—
To e'en thy mortal sense become a shade.
Canst thou in Love a single sorrow find?
(Inharmony knows not harmonious Mind)
But in Love's presence peace forever glows:
Who knoweth Love, he gladness ever knows;
Rest then thy heart within Love's sweet embrace,
Seek thou Love's image, seek Love's tender face;
In sweet communion joys eternal thou
Shalt see and taste, aye, know of heaven now;
Nor rest thy hope in dim eternity:
Thy bliss is here and now and e'er shall be.

In Love is comfort when all comforts fail,
In Love is strength when error would prevail;
To Love to flee when all our bulwarks fall,
In Love to calmly know that Love is All.
