When Christian Science was first brought to my notice, over two years ago, I had so far recovered from a very long and severe illness that I was able to go abroad and resume my work of teaching, but I was far from strong and in constant fear of a breakdown. The first effect of reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy was that I at once gave up the idea of resigning from my post and returning home, as I had had serious thoughts of doing. I recognized the fact that "whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself" (Science and Health, p. 385). Depression and the dismal sense of failure left me. I felt that I was surrounded by divine Love, and that all would be well with me. My health began steadily to improve, and later, when the feeling that my work was a strain attacked me again, I went to a practitioner, and with her help the condition was quickly overcome.

One day, on my way to the Christian Science reading-room, I stumbled and twisted my ankle severely. The thought that there is no sensation in matter quickly to my mind, and I continued my walk without any pain. Once at my destination, however, a feeling of faintness came on. A Christian Science practitioner advised me to lie down and to keep "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) in my thought. I did so, and in an incredibly short time I jumped up, saying that I could not lie there any longer, that I felt much too well to do this. Colds and coughs have also yielded with remarkable quickness. Through the study of the text-book, with the patience and the understanding, the advice and help of a practitioner, irritability, temper, and fear are slowly but surely loosening their hold on me. I am learning that Christian Science is availabel in all the every-day problems of life, and the help I am receiving in my work is inestimable.

The Bible means so much more to me now, that the ever-presence and all-power of God, good, is becoming clearer and clearer. I am inded more grateful to God than I can express, and my heart goes out in thankfulness and love to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
