DELIGHT IN TRUTH

Christian Scientists are today experiencing the blessedness mentioned in the First Psalm, where we read of him whose "delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night." One can understand why the psalmist sang thus, since the same delight has come to us through the revelation of what God's law is. Often, when watching the cordial handshaking at a Christian Science church door, the thought comes that it is no mere greeting, but a mutual congratulation, a felicitation upon having found the truth.

When I first began the study of the Bible, with Science and Health as its key, I wondered why the door had not been opened wider for us and more explicit explanations made; but, as the deeper meanings began to unfold to me, I saw the great wisdom of Mrs. Eddy in protecting its pearls from the unprepared thought and leaving the joy of individual spiritual perception to reward faithful study. To search, to find, to analyze, to apply in any line of investigation, is conceded to be the greatest human pleasure by those who have had opportunity to judge. Let this research be for the Science of being, since it contains the answer to the riddle of the ages, and in pursuing it we of a surety find peace and blessedness. Moreover, every endeavor put forth to make our own the truth which is freely offered to all insures that steady growth in grace which is the reward of those only who exercise themselves unto godliness.

The Christian Scientist approaches his daily lesson with a prayerful anticipation that finds abundant reward. It has been said that "Christian Science is not to be intellectually perceived, but intelligently discerned." This discernment comes often with a flood of light when familiar passages stand out clearly with a meaning never before imagined. Such a realization often brings healing, and always a spiritual exaltation that sends the reader on his way enabled to "rejoice always" and with food for meditation "day and night." May those who have found this delight so exemplify it that the day may be hastened when all shall know God, from the least to the greatest.
