THE LECTURES
CLEAR LAKE, IOWA.
Clear Lake Reporter
A lecture on Christian Science was given at the White Pier, Clear Lake, Iowa, on Sunday, Aug. 20, by the Hon. Clarence A. Buskirk of St. Louis. The lecturer was introduced by the Rev. W. A. Marzolf, pastor of the Congregational church, who said:—
Christ Jesus taught men what to believe, how to think, how to live. This is a scientific age. Truth is science—science is truth. When we know the truth about God, about the Christ, about God's will for man, and adjust our lives to the truth, we shall be saved. It is history that in all ages the church has sought, as it were blindly, after God, after truth, and never in any age have men found all of truth—but with the advancing ages God has revealed Himself more clearly to men, as they became better fitted to receive larger revelations of God's truth.
God and truth are unchanging, "the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever," but slowly does the truth dawn upon our horizon. We are always glad to welcome one true to his convictions, and we have with us today one who is convinced that he has a more complete revelation of God's truth than mankind has had since the Christ of God taught the perfect will of his Father, which message in its true spiritual significance had been lost awhile. The foundation of his conviction is that God is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. He claims to find in the teachings of Christ Jesus the sum total of all spiritual truth, and it is this truth that he wishes to expound. We must always welcome one who comes in the name of Christ Jesus, that we be not numbered with those who stone the prophets and kill them that are sent unto men. When with indignation Jesus' disciples came to him, saying, "Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name and we forbade him because he followeth not with us," Jesus said, "Forbid him not, for he that is not against us is for us." With these words of the Master ringing in my ears, I gladly introduce to you the Hon. C. A. Buskirk, who will now address you.
