THE LECTURES

Prof. Hermann S. Hering lectured on Christian Science March 12. He was introduced as follows by H. M. Kinney:—

My attention was first seriously called to Christian Science several years ago, when, detained in one of our western cities over Sunday, I decided to attend the morning service at a near-by Christian Science church. Judge of my surprise when I was met at the door by an old friend, who was one of the ushers, and who I supposed was in the depths of despair and disgrace because of having left a position of responsibility and trust through the excessive use of liquor. His smiling face and joyous greeting told me more of the power of Christian Science than I had ever known or imagined. I was conducted to about the last vacant seat in that large auditorium, and as I glanced at the faces of those about me it seemed as if every one whom I saw must likewise have been released from some form of bondage. Such an atmosphere of trust and peace I had never before realized.

It has been my privilege to attend similar services in many parts of our country, and that same calm, implicit faith in God is the prevailing note. A number of times when inquiring the way to a Christian Science church I have been told to "follow the crowd," and it proved to be correct. Certainly this rediscovered religion, this revelation to Mrs. Eddy, this provable Christianity, has met with a wonderful growth over the entire world, and we are here this afternoon to learn more of it from one who speaks with authority.—Correspondence.
