Over six years ago I was led to the study of Christian Science by the hopelessness of getting relief from my suffering through materia medica. I was told that my age stood in the way of my recovery. One diagnosis of the case was spinal, kidney, and stomach trouble. My back had been injured when I was only sixteen years old, resulting in a curvature. I had submitted to all kinds of treatment in the hope of being cured, but received no permanent help.

I determined to give Christian Science as fair a trial as I had materia medica, but I had to contend with an unacountable dislike to Mrs. Eddy, and yet I had always believed myself to be fair-minded. I now know that it was the same evil which always has opposed itself to Truth and Love,—the old Adam hiding in its belief of personality. But this was overcome, and even greater to me than the healing of disease was the healing of a sense of sorrow. This sorrow seemed so great that life appeared a hideous nightmare, and death the only means of escape, when God in His loving-kindness brought to my remembrance a book that I had heard about eighteen years before, written by a woman whom I thought I disliked. This book was the means of saving me from a suicide's grave, and its teachings have opened the windows of heaven to me. O love unspeakable, unselfed love, what can I offer in return for the priceless boon given by our loving Father through Science and Health! In the words of St. Paul, I shall strive to "press on" to the high calling of God which is in Christ Jesus.—Mrs. S. E. Kerlinger, Germantown, Pa.
