[Written for the Sentinel.]

A THOUGHT FOR EVERY DAY

If you, my friend,—just you and I,—
Should smile instead of worry;
If, as the days and moments fly
Amid life's stress and hurry,
We aim to make our thoughts more kind.
Our hearts and words more tender,
To be to others' faults more blind,
For evil good to render;
Then what a change would come about
In all this dark world's story,
If thus the Christ through us shone out,
Revealing there his glory!
