I have been a keen church-goer and student of the Bible...
Dundee (Scot.) People's Journal
I have been a keen church-goer and student of the Bible since childhood, and I am convinced that the teachings of Christian Science are wholly Scriptural and give a man greater power to resist evil and manifest good than any other method known on earth today. All Christians acknowledge that God is the only cause and creator, and accept the New Testament statements that He is good, that He is Love, Life, Truth, Spirit. If this be true, then His creation must also be in its essential nature the effect, outcome, expression of good, of Love, of Life, of Truth, of Spirit; and anything which is not the expression of God's nature cannot have Him as cause, and since He is the only cause, can have no real cause, and therefore must be simply a delusion.
The more we think this over the more clearly we see that its logic is unassailable, and yet so contrary is it to our experience, and so surprising, as at first to seem impossible of belief. He who would put this theory to the test must daily follow the apostle's advice, and strive to think of the things which are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, worthy of praise, and constantly maintain that sin, sorrow, and disease do not proceed from God, and form, therefore, no part of man.
The experience of an ever increasing number of people, drawn from all classes of society and from many nations, testifies to the purifying effect of this process. It seems hardly necessary to deny the preposterous assertion that Mrs. Eddy offered to exempt people from their sins. She pointed all men to the one Saviour, Christ Jesus, and showed that more than mere belief in him is required in a Christian; it is necessary so to understand the Master's teachings that it is possible to keep his commandments,—to return good for evil, to reform the sinner, and to heal the sick.
