Feeling it to be a privilege as well as duty to bear witness...
Feeling it to be a privilege as well as duty to bear witness to the healing power of Truth as revealed to the world through the teachings of Christian Science, I gladly send this testimony. I had made a very unsuccessful struggle against the belief in heredity, a liver trouble especially. I had entirely outgrown materia medica, not having an iota of faith in it. I was indeed helpless unless I could find something beyond human power to give me aid. I had reached the point where I said to myself that the struggle was not worth while, that I would not make another effort to get well.
Then like a flash came a "still small voice," saying, "You will be perfectly well and your life lies all before you." The impression was so clear that I involuntarily looked around; it was as though some one had spoken, though I knew I should not see any person. From that time on I felt I would be healed, although I could not see where my help would come from. I never had been able to accept the teachings of the orthodox church, and had wondered what was wrong with me; it never occurred to me that the teachings could be wrong. I finally came to the conclusion that reason and revelation could not be reconciled in these teachings. My father had always been a devout Christian, and with a child's faith I had considered his opinions infallible; but when I was forced to see that they were not consistent, I felt that I had no support, nothing to lean upon.
It was at this point that I was directed to Christian Science. My healing was slow but complete, and it involved the unwinding of many tangles. This meant much, as the belief in an asserted law of heredity was very strong. Christian Science reconciled reason and revelation and gave me a God at hand, available as a present help, and not a God afar off. I have had many proofs of the power of Truth, as taught in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy,—to heal sickness and sin and restore harmony.
