Many times, when laboring under a sense of discouragement, an article or testimony in our publications has dispelled the gloom, and I am now adding my testimony in the hope that it may help some other seeker for this glorious truth which makes men free. My attention was first called to Christian Science when a number of Scientists gathered at the capital of my native state to protest against the passage of a medical bill that was then pending before the Legislature. They failed to make any impression on me, except in a material way, because I associated them with a fanatical sect which had been circulating its literature throughout the state. My attention was next attracted by the instantaneous healing of my wife of several so-called "incurable diseases." We had been told by every physician we tried that she could live but a few years at most, and then only by going to a higher altitude. This we did, but she got no relief until Science found her.

I was away from home at the time she was healed, and when I returned I was willing to attend services, but still not grateful enough to acknowledge what this glorious truth had done for us. A few months after coming home, however, I was in a gas explosion, which was of such force that I was thrown about thirty feet. My face was dreadfully burned, even the inside of my ears being blistered. My hands were burned so badly that I had to take the receiver between my wrists when I telephoned my wife of my condition. This happened about four miles from home. A Christian Science practitioner from Boulder, Col., where we then resided, was notified, and treatment began at once. I did not suffer more than one and a half hours, and I am sure I would not have had any suffering at all if the appearance of my hands had not been so bad, for the pain seemed to be only in my hands. It was on Friday that I was injured, and on Tuesday morning I returned to work. I never lost any time or suffered any inconvenience from the injury afterward.

With this healing also came the overcoming of the smoking habit, to which I had been addicted for a number of years. I might add that I had been wearing glasses for about six years, but after one treatment I was able to lay them aside and have had no need of them since. Recently in making an ocean voyage I thanked God for my perfect sight every time I had occasion to look across the water. The last five years we have been in the tropics, and all this time through our understanding of Christian Science we have been kept in excellent health. I know the only way to express our gratitude to our dear Leader is by living daily what she has taught us.
