Christian Scientists readily agree that "the purpose of science is to discover truth," but to agree that "the purpose of religion is to help us adapt ourselves to the facts of experience revealed to us through the senses from the world about us," is equivalent to saying that the five personal senses, absolutely unreliable witnesses of matter, are the avenues through which God, Spirit, is revealed to man. Spiritual things must be spiritually discerned. God, Spirit, is revealed through spiritual capacities; through purification of thought and life, and subjugation of matter, with its changing, false testimony.

Christian Science primarily and intentionally awakens humanity out of the nightmare of sin and disease to a realization that "now is the day of salvation" from every discordant experience. Whereas humanity, with material vision, sees only a host of enemies encompassing it, Christian Science, like the prophet Elisha, discerns the spiritual facts, and through its prayer the eyes of men are opened to the immediate availability of divine Love's protection and salvation. Christian Science is not "a strange compound," but one and indivisible—the revelation of the God who is Spirit, and to be worshiped "in spirit and in truth." It is demonstrable Science; therefore, beyond the point of argument. One who has proven its verity in the smallest degree knows that it is of God; and that its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy, has well earned that gracious benediction: "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."
