I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...

I wish to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. About fourteen years ago, I was a physical and mental wreck, as two years previous to that time I had undergone what materia medica pronounced a dangerous surgical operation, which left me in a very nervous state. I was located in a private sanitarium in New York city, where I had all the care I could wish for; but the treatment failed to heal me. I can truthfully say that I did not know what suffering was until I had gone through that operation; then seemingly every ill came to me. When I left the hospital the doctor told me that I would be one of the strongest women in the land, but that I would not be able to walk much. I thought this was strange, for I felt that to be strong would also include the ability to walk. Since gaining the understanding of Christian Science, I have walked all I desired, although at times mortal sense rebelled.

I had been warned not to eat anything that would hurt me; so I was nearly starved, though I did not know I was suffering from hunger. At this time I came to Boston, with very little hope of getting well, but I prayed to God to show me a way that I might be healed, for I had already learned that only God could heal me, if only I could know the way to ask aright. I had been brought up by a devoted Christian mother, and saw that she relied upon God, both in sorrow and sickness, and never used any drugs, and I felt that I could do the same if I only knew how to trust Him.

At this time Christian Science was mentioned to me by a friend who was not then a Christian Scientist but has since become one. I went to a practitioner, and had treatment for three weeks; but I did not seem to receive the benefit I wanted, so I stopped the treatment. I bought the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and began to study it and attend the church service. As the understanding of Truth came to me the ills gradually left me, and I found myself healed. I am indeed thankful to God for having been helped to press onward in the truth. I am grateful for our Publishing Society, and deeply grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the priceless gift of Science and Health. I thank God for my healing, and for the peace that has come into my life through this blessed truth.
