I am impelled to relate the splendid results of my stay...
I am impelled to relate the splendid results of my stay last year in Stuttgart. The preceding winter, and especially in the early spring, I felt very weak and was also in a sad condition mentally. Two years ago the explanations of a Scientist had filled me with great confidence in Christian Science, and I had several experiences of help in my family and for myself. Unhappily, however, I again fell into much doubt. At last I became weak and miserable, and added to the debility was such pain in the back that walking became almost impossible. In this helpless condition I wrote to the before-mentioned Scientist, asking her to help me. She answered that I should come at once, which I did the next day in the company of a friend. The medical diagnosis of my case was that the pain was caused by an obstinate form of rheumatism, and that the debility could only be cured by a long rest and much sleep. I was then treated in Christian Science. Next day the pain had almost disappeared, and on the second day there was no trace of it left; while the weakness quickly gave way to mental and bodily vigor.
I had another joyful experience in Christian Science in the overcoming of a fear of dental operations that I had had for years. This time I took the dreaded step with full confidence in God's omnipotence, and with the comforting words, "Fear not, I am with thee." Fear was overcome by the thought of divine Love as ever present. During the operation the sense of the unreality of matter was so clear to me that nine teeth were extracted without the least fear or pain. But it is not these splendid results in regard to bodily healing which impels this grateful acknowledgment, I wish especially to lay stress on the fact that no other teaching shows so clearly and simply the way to the good and true, to joy and happiness, and finally to the high goal of becoming Christlike, as does Christian Science I share with all my heart the tender gratitude of all Scientists toward Mrs. Eddy.
