Some twelve years ago, after suffering much pain and discomfort for a period of two or three weeks, with what the physician said was an abscess in my left ear, I found myself totally deaf in that ear. On consulting a well-known specialist, I was informed, after a thorough diagnosis of my trouble, that the deafness was caused by an abnormal growth, and he further stated that I would not be able to hear anything again in that ear until the growth had been removed. He described it as a bony substance, and said its removal would require a very delicate surgical operation.
As I could not then spare the time from my business I went home with the intention of having the operation performed as soon as possible. The following day I related my experience with the doctor to a party of friends, among whom was a lady who was greatly interested in Christian Science. She strongly urged me to try this treatment, and as it offered at least a temporary escape from a painful operation, I finally consented to do so, although I had but faint hope that any help would be derived from it. Upon her advice I sought a practitioner, who treated me for two weeks with such success that my hearing was fully restored and I am happy to state that it has been perfect ever since.
For this manifestation of the power of divine Love, and the help received, I shall never cease to be thankful to God, and all honor, respect, and love is due to the noble and self-sacrificing woman who gave up so many years of her life that she might bring this beautiful and practical religion within our reach.
