Nothing could be farther from the truth than the claim...

Nothing could be farther from the truth than the claim that Christian Science is pantheism,—either materialistic or idealistic,—or that it denies nature. On the other hand, if our clerical critic will concede that God is infinite, and I believe he will, and that matter is real, he will have reduced his belief to the same pantheistic level as the stoic. One vital difference between "pantheistic idealism" and Christian Science is that this philosophy is based on the admission of the power of the human mind, which is distinctly "a house divided against itself," and which is as completely disowned in Christian Science as in the teachings of the New Testament. Suppose one were to read all the books ever written on pantheism, would the knowledge gained thereby enable him to heal a single case of malignant disease? Through the understanding gained by a study of the Christian Science text-book, many men and women bear grateful acknowledgment of having been healed of dreaded diseases which have been pronounced incurable by expert physicians.

A desire after complete holiness is the truest mark of being born again. It is a mark that God has made us meet for the inheritance of the saints in life. If a nobleman were to adopt a beggar boy, he would not only feed and clothe him, but educate him, and fit him to move in the sphere into which he was afterward to be brought; and if you saw this boy filled with a noble spirit, you would say he is meet.—McCheyne.
