A little over five years ago a friend recommended Christian Science...
A little over five years ago a friend recommended Christian Science treatment to me for relief from an organic trouble with which I was suffering. I had consulted three doctors, none of whom gave me more than temporary relief, and each one recommended perfect rest for a year at least; so I decided to give up my work as music teacher and avoid any exertion whatever. This came as a great hardship to me, for I needed to keep on with my work, and I was very fond of walking, playing tennis, etc. I had worried along through three months in this way,—extremely nervous, sensitive, and a burden to myself and the household, when a friend wrote me that I need not give up my work, but that through Christian Science I could do it better than ever before. It seemed hard to believe this was possible, although I wanted to do so.
As soon as I could, I borrowed a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, stopped taking medicine, and began to investigate the subject. I believed that God could heal me, but I also believed that I did not know how to ask Him. From the very first day I became greatly interested, and so far forgot myself that when I again thought of my former ailments I found I had none—they had disappeared. I was healed simply by reading the book. Just at this time I secured work as music teacher in a private school, and entered upon the work immediately, without the least fear, riding on horseback each way twice a week. I also began to teach my two sisters, devoting three hours to this work every day. It was such joy to feel free, and be able to work again.
The following summer I had class instruction in Christian Science, for which I am more and more grateful every day. This wonderful truth has been my only remedy since the day I was healed, and never, when faithfully applied, has it failed to give immediate relief. I am in better health today than ever before in my life. The old trouble has never returned, and many former complaints have left me. As a little girl I had prayed to God to heal me, but when no healing came I grew discouraged, though I was unwilling to distrust Christ's promises. I felt sure that by waiting and watching I could some day learn how to obey his command to "heal the sick." Is it any wonder, then when the healing power of Christian Science was proven to me, that I at once recognized it as an answer to my lifelong prayer! I thank God that He has shown us the way through Mrs. Eddy, and that we can today rely upon Him in sickness and in health.
