THE LECTURES

William D. McCrackan, M.A., lectured on Christian Science in First Church Jan. 9. He was introduced by John Randall Dunn, who said:—

A week ago, the world resounded with the glad cry, "Happy new year!" A beautiful wish this, and uttered by many sincere and loving lips; but has it, in its millions of repetitions, ever shown a suffering brother or sister how to have a happy new year?

Have you not longed many times to depart from this stereotyped greeting, and to say to those bowed with care or racked with pain, "I do not wish you a happy new year—I am going to tell you how to have one"? That is precisely what Christian Science is saying to every one of us. It indulges in no vain wishes for future bliss, but sets forth, lucidly and positively, rules which, if followed, make for a new year teeming with hope, joyous in strength, and blessed with a peace of mind that passes earthly understanding. We have with us tonight one whose happy mission it is to tell us more of this healing and saving truth.
