I wish to acknowledge what Christian Science has done...
I wish to acknowledge what Christian Science has done for me, and I am sending this testimonial with a prayer that some who read it may be led to investigate the marvelous truths found in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. For many years I was a church member, but my concept of God was that of an anthropomorphic being whom I feared more than I loved. In this inharmonious mental condition I drifted away from the church and wandered through the labyrinth of many isms, honestly, earnestly seeking for the truth. I took up philanthropic work, and was crying "Peace, peace," when there was no peace. To a casual observer our home was a happy one, but within all was mental discord, until at last I cried out from the depths of my soul to know God aright. About two years ago I was most graciously led to the study of Christian Science, and as the search-light of Truth began to beam upon me, I discovered in my own thought many errors which had kept me from knowing God aright. Almost in despair, I asked where I could find God, and my eyes fell upon these words in Mrs. Eddy's "No and Yes" (p. 11), "Revelation shows this Principle, and will rescue reason from the thrall of error." Through the study of the Christian Science text-book and Mrs. Eddy's other works, with our periodicals, and from the excellent help which I have had from a practitioner, my teacher, and others, I am learning that "the essence of this Science is right thinking and right acting" (Ibid., p. 12).
I was formerly governed by fear of sickness, poverty, disaster, sorrow, and failure of every kind; but today my heart goes out in a deep sense of gratitude to God, and to our beloved Leader for what she has given us in her life-work of a practical, demonstrable understanding of Principle, whereby we may gain the truth and know that fear cannot govern in our lives. I did not come to Christian Science for the physical healing, but have had many beautiful demonstrations of Truth's power. A bowel disorder of over twenty years' standing has been completely met; liver complaint, female trouble, rheumatism, neuralgia of long standing,—all these ills have disappeared through Christian Science. For this I am indeed grateful, but these physical healings seem small compared with the overcoming of discordant conditions that could not be related in detail. For these overcomings, and especially for the spiritual uplift and understanding of omnipresent Love which is being gained each day through the study of Christian Science, words fail me to express the gratitude I feel.
