I am truly grateful for Christian Science, because of what it has done and is doing for me and mine. The first time I ever saw a copy of Science and Health, by Mrs. Eddy, was at my brother's a few years ago. After reading only a few pages I remarked, "Why did I not know of this before?" In the one evening's reading I had found something intensely interesting, but I was not quite ready to accept the healing. In a few days, however, a carbuncle appeared on my face, and after using all the remedies that a doctor prescribed, to no avail, I was asked by my brother to try Christian Science. After thinking it over seriously, I gave my consent, and called on a practitioner. My face was badly swollen, but after one treatment the pain ceased, and in a very short time every trace of the trouble was gone. I immediately became a student of Science and Health, and as I studied I gained an understanding of the Bible, a love for all mankind, and a peace never before possessed. I knew I had found the truth!

About this time a dear nephew was seriously ill with what the doctors pronounced an incurable kidney disease, and after they had done all in their power his parents were asked to try Christian Science. The little fellow's father bought a copy of the text-book and gave it to him. He was delighted; it seemed as if the book gave the boy a perfect assurance of his healing, and he said, "I am going to get well now." A practitioner was called to take the case, and after a struggle with the belief in medical laws about the fatality of the disease, the healing came. It was about four months; but from the day the practitioner came into the home the fear of death was destroyed. I am sure that her patience and her love for us (I was a member of the household during this time) was our great stay.

The error was not overcome instantly, but had it been instantaneous, possibly we should never have taken time to investigate Christian Science. Now, my sister and family, my brother and family, my husband and myself are all students; and how I do rejoice in this understanding of God as an ever-present help! Every day I realize that by seeking to know more of this blessed truth I find the way of Love, and I am so thankful for all the blessings that come to me with this study,—a spiritual uplift, such as I had never known; perfect health, unfailing supply, joy,—all this the right understanding of God gives to me. My heart continually goes out in gratitude to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her help to us at all times; for having given us an understanding of Principle by which to work out our own life-problems,—our own salvation. In applying this understanding we find health, happiness, and all the good that belongs to God's children. I have not words to express my gratitude for this practical religion,—a religion that stands all tests. That my daily life may be spent in striving to know and demonstrate more and more of this truth, is my prayer. My thankfulness to God is beyond expression.—Mrs. Enna B. Smith, Bridgeport, Conn.
