In March, 1909, my mother asked me to treat her for severe pain in her head, accompanied with stomach and bowel trouble, cold and cough. I did so, and she seemed to be better in some respects, but did not gain as I thought she should. This was on Wednesday, and on Friday morning I wrote to a dear Christian Science friend who had helped me over many rough places in my journey from sense to Soul, and asked her for help; but before the letter was mailed my mother came into the room where I was at work, and as I looked around I saw that she was about to fall. I helped her to a chair, and as I did so she called on God and began to declare the truth for herself. She then sank back, with every appearance of impending dissolution.
I declared the truth with all the understanding of Christian Science which I had. I do not know how long I worked, as I was alone in the house, and I was glad of it, for I felt that God was all I needed at this time. I managed to reach the telephone, and called my husband, asking him to come home at once. I never ceased to declare for life, and by the time my husband got home my mother had begun to show signs of consciousness though still very ill. My husband then telegraphed to the practitioner mentioned, and she responded to our call for help at once. She worked faithfully, and I reported the results every day. By Sunday my mother was much better, and on Tuesday she was able to sit up and take a bath. On the following Sunday she went to the Christian Science services, and in less than three weeks she was able to travel on the train and went to visit my sister. This was an attack of an eruptive disease, from which she had suffered before, and I have known of her being confined to the bed for many weeks under medical treatment before she was able even to sit up in bed.
Is it any wonder that we love Mrs. Eddy for showing us this blessed way to Truth and Life. I am indeed very grateful for this help, for I feel that my mother was saved from death.—Mrs. Lula Walthall, Crowell, Tex.
