On Sept. 25, 1903, while on my way to work, I was...

On Sept. 25, 1903, while on my way to work, I was getting on the street-car when it suddenly started, and I was thrown to the ground, receiving very serious injuries. An ambulance was called and I was taken to a hospital. I was in bed nine weeks with a weight on my foot; then the weight was taken off and I sat up in a wheel-chair. The next day the leg was found to have shortened two and a half inches, so the doctor put a weight of five pounds in my shoe, and I walked with crutches. I carried this weight until March, 1904. The following June I went to the hospital again, and the doctors held a consultation, using the X-rays. They said that the bone had not united and that it was only held together by the ligaments. Some of the doctors wanted to cut the limb open and wire the bone together; but the others objected, so the operation was not performed.

When the doctors were through with my case, the limb seemed lifeless, from the hip down, and I was unable to put any weight upon it. The whole condition was one of great distress, although I tried to walk with a crutch and cane. It was on Jan. 18, 1905, that I took my first Christian Science treatment, and about six weeks later I went to work, being able by that time to give up my crutch and to use a cane only. After a few months I could walk without the use of the cane, and have worked at hard labor ever since without experiencing any trouble whatever. I am indeed thankful to God for Christian Science, and all it has brought to me; also to Mrs. Eddy for this wonderful truth, and to my friends for directing me to the Christ-healing.—George Stonehouse, Detroit, Mich.
