The first I knew of Christian Science was a little more...
The first I knew of Christian Science was a little more than a year ago, when a neighbor invited me to attend a service. I had always had a desire to get all the good I could, so when my friend invited me to go to the service with her, I accepted the invitation, hoping to find the help I was seeking and of which I was so greatly in need. I went with her the following Wednesday evening, but as I had not been able to hear ordinary conversation for years, I could not follow what was said. I was, however, impressed with the service, and would have gone again soon but, as I moved to the country directly after this, I was unable to do so for some time. Fortunately, one of my nearest neighbors was a Christian Scientist, and she loaned me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which I read with great interest.
My health began to improve, but I was so interested in the truths taught in this book that I lost sight of the physical condition, and did not realize the help I was receiving until my husband, noticing such a marked improvement in my condition, asked what I had been doing to bring about this change. It was not until then that I awakened to the fact that I had been healed. I had from a child been troubled with an eruptive disease, which had affected my hearing, so that for five years previous to my healing I had not had a good night's rest on account of it, and the pain and irritation were dreadful at times. I tried many physicians and procured every remedy I could hear of, but all to no avail. I am now free from the old complaints, and my hearing is so much improved that I can hear a clock ticking across the room.
I find great joy in the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons, and I hope some time to understand better the truth revealed in Christian Science, which has made me free. At present all I can say is, "Whereas I was blind, now I see." Nor can I express in words my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, through whom this has been made possible.
