The opening of the approach to the Christian Science...

Boston Post

The opening of the approach to the Christian Science temple is one of the most notable contributions to the beautification of the city attributable to private enterprise.

The location of this admirable piece of architecture has been held to be unfortunate, inasmuch as it was in the heart of the apartment-house district, shut off in great measure from public observation. By the acquisition of the vacant lot, hitherto unsightly, between Huntington avenue and Falmouth street, and transforming this space into a park with pleasing features, a vista of approach has been created which inspires admiration.

It is now possible to view the great building as its architects intended that it should be seen. Indeed, it forms conspicuous conspicuous addition to the beauties of that section of the city in which the development of Boston along esthetic lines is most notable.

The march of commercialism invading this part of the town is pleasantly checked by this interposition of a spot of beauty. The Christian Science people have set an example of what may be done in the local development of Boston which may well be taken seriously to heart by those who have the direction of civic advancement.
