In every branch church of Christian Science throughout the world communion services are held twice a year, but without the symbols of the bread and wine. On the subject of baptism I would call attention to the following words of St. John the Baptist, as given in the 3rd chapter of St. Matthew: "I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I ... he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost"! Christian Scientists think not less but more of baptism than do most Christians, but they believe that the essence of baptism is a radical change of heart and life—the new birth.
