Sixteen years ago I was stricken down with a terrible disease, known in medical circles as epilepsy, which clung to me year after year, attacking me at any time and place, so much so, that I always had a feeling of insecurity which made life a misery to me. I was able through following the sea as a profession to obtain advice of some very clever doctors in England, the United States, Canada, and Australia, but could get no consolation from any of them, as all were of the same opinion, namely, that there was no cure for me.

In August, 1908, while visiting some friends in Sydney, I heard that a friend of my sister had been cured of a malignant growth by Christian Science, after the medical advisers had given up all hope and asserted that she had but a few months to live. I was interested at once, and hearing that Christian Science claimed to heal all diseases, I resolved to put my case before a practitioner. I did so, and after the interview the lady consented to give me treatment. I called the following day, and after the first treatment was satisfied that I had found a sure means for the healing of my troubles, in the realization of the truth which the practitioner put before me. I walked home for the first time in fifteen years, with the knowledge that God is all powerful and ever present; also that God is Love, and that this knowledge was setting me free. I took two more treatments after this, but am satisfied that I was healed in the first.

My gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, who through His grace has brought Christian Science with its clear understanding of the healing truth, into this world and within reach of all, I hope to demonstrate by living my life as taught us in Christian Science.
