The Christian Science temple, one of the most beautiful...

Boston Common

The Christian Science temple, one of the most beautiful pieces of architecture in the city, is being given a worthy approach. What has hitherto been but an unsightly vacant lot, between Huntington avenue and Falmouth street, has been transformed into a park, across which one sees the temple, The Mother Church, and the publishing house. The bare wall of a block at one side of the park has been skillfully treated, and a most pleasing Italian effect, as of a sunken garden, has been produced.

The vista from Huntington avenue is now one of unusual beauty, and embodies an idea which might be applied with advantage to other structures, such as the Custom House, City Hall, and Court House. In demonstrating the necessity of a beautiful approach for a beautiful building, the Christian Scientists have contributed largely to the esthetic needs of Boston.
