From an unsightly dump, filled with piles of building...

Boston Post

From an unsightly dump, filled with piles of building bricks and old timber, the open lot running from Huntington avenue to Falmouth street, in front of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, is fast becoming a triumph of landscape gardening. When completed, the part of the garden from Huntington avenue to the main doors of the church will be used as a park, to allow worshipers to reach the church from the avenue.

From the present brick walls of Huntington avenue the lot has been graded by a series of terraces to a large green in the center. On each side of this green are walks twenty feet wide. These walks are reached from both the Huntington avenue and Falmouth street sides by a series of granite steps. On both sides of each of the four flights of steps are arranged circular clusters of evergreens, made up of mountain pine, junipers, and dwarf pines, and are to be surrounded by bulb plants in season. Running beside the walks will be beds of flowering plants, evergreens, roses and bulb plants. The center will be a perfect lawn, in which will be set small trees of evergreen.

Running from the north walk along the Falmouth street side to Norway street will be a large green. In the rear of the apartment houses has been constructed a high retaining wall of granite, in front of which is to be laid out a row of poplars. This same system will be employed along the walls of Chickering Hall.
