When Christian Science was mentioned to me, somewhat...

When Christian Science was mentioned to me, somewhat more than seven years ago, as a possible means of relief from the difficulties under which I was laboring, it was met with stubborn prejudice, for I was bound hand and foot to a belief in material gods, and moreover felt a strange antagonism toward Christian Scientists, in spite of the evidences all about me of the good work they were doing. However, my health was failing, after a residence in the South, where I had contracted malaria, and I was burdened at the same time with a sense of grief and an intolerable condition of discontent.

When a friend urged me at least to read Science and Health, I began to do so reluctantly and hestitatingly, but in the end it healed me. Eye trouble, for which glasses had been worn three years, stomach trouble of several years' standing, extreme nervousness, and an internal complication for which the physicians could offer me no promise of cure,—all these yielded after a faithful and persistent study of our text-book. Now, in place of physical discomfort I have good health; in place of dissatisfaction and unrest I know something of the peace that comes with the realization of man's unity with his Maker; and in place of scornful prejudice I find myself with an increasing love for humanity. I am gladly, humbly willing to follow all the instructions given by our beloved Leader for our guidance in bringing to the apprehension of men the kingdom of heaven on earth. I am grateful to God for this revelation, and shall endeavor to show that gratitude and appreciation for the truth by follow Love's command, "Be ye doers of the word."—Cora E.
