What first appealed to me in Christian Science was the...

What first appealed to me in Christian Science was the beauty, purity, and force of its teachings. It seemed to me it must be the truth. At the time I told my husband that I could never again rely on anything else but Christian Science. I was sick in bed. I had seen no complete healing in Christian Science, and had read little, but that little, together with the talks which I had with my sister and her husband, then just taking up the study of Christian Science, was enough to convince me that I wanted to know more of it. The next week I had a copy of Science and Health of my own, and read it with absorbing interest. My illness was the outcome of an operation performed in a hospital three months before. I could not, at the time, walk two blocks without being thoroughly overcome with weakness: but, with the help of a Christian Science practitioner. and my own reading, I was a well woman in a very short time, and able to walk any distance, my first walk being one of six miles about a week after I began treatment.

My husband took up the study with me, and we are traveling the rugged but wonderful road together. In the year and a half of our work in Science we have had many beautiful demonstrations over illness, the worst symptoms being destroyed in a day and the healing completed in a week. With only my own efforts and study I have over come in myself severe headaches, which were for three years very frequent, and so distressing that for several nights consecutively I would be unable to lie down all night. For a year and a half I had frequent and very severe attacks of styes on both eyes. The last few I treated persistently with Christian Science, and each proved less troublesome.

My baby boy, now over a year old, is a picture of health and happiness. I ascribe it all to the glorious truth which he has always known, and which we are trying to live for his sake. Some seemingly severe ailments have been overcome for him. A few months ago he seemed to be seriously ill, but with persistence in realizing the truth of being, and our reliance upon God, the trouble was completely met. Five hours after he had seemed to be a helpless, fever-racked babe, he was transformed into a laughing, bright-eyed boy. Can any one, especially any parent who may read this, doubt that I am thankful for my slight knowledge of Christian Science, and grateful to the courageous woman through whom it has come to us—she who has toiled so long and so persistently, against overwhelming obstacles, to show us anew the way.
