LETTERS TO OUR LEADER

Empire, Canal Zone, Jan. 30, 1909.

Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy, Brookline, Mass.

Dear Leader:—The Science work on the Isthmus has been most interesting, and the love that has been understood and reflected has proven that quality, not quantity, meets every need in the right way. Our Readers commenced the work by holding services in their home, where for two Sundays they were the only attendants. Then some good healing was accomplished and we added to the fold. In a short time seven were attending regularly, and truly seven proved to be a complete number, for every problem has been met without urging or effort on the part of any one. Love has taught us the bliss of giving and broadened our understanding in many ways, enabling us to be of assistance to each other; for in trouble or discouragement none of us but will promptly call upon the others for help as needed, and never is it withheld. This has cemented our fellowship in the bonds of love from the Atlantic to the Pacific, for our members meet half-way of the Isthmus at Gorgona, coming from their homes at different points from ocean to ocean,—a mere matter of railroad fare not being considered when the good to be obtained from the service is remembered.
